Lithium Australia NL hits $50M market value, triggers performance shares

Thursday, April 07, 2016 by Proactive Investors

Lithium Australia NL has now surpassed a market capitalisation of $50 million

Lithium Australia NL (ASX:LIT) has now surpassed a market capitalisation of $50 million under the stewardship of managing director Adrian Griffin.

Griffin was allocated performance rights when the company was worth $16 million, and now with the $50 million hurdle exceeded, 2 million performance rights have now been converted to 2 million shares.

The share price was trading at $0.075 in October 2015, surging to a yearly high of $0.24 in 2016.

The valuation rise in the company has been driven by discoveries at its Ravensthorpe Lithium Project, which is strategically located in Western Australia near the Mt Cattlin lithium mine operated by Galaxy Resources Ltd (ASX:GXY).

Also, LIT has gained exclusive access to a processing technology for the production of lithium chemicals from silicates including the clays, micas and spodumene without the requirement to roast before leaching.

    George Bauk, chairman, commented:

“The board is very appreciative of the strategy that Adrian Griffin has continued to pursue.

"Over the past 6 months, significant outcomes have been achieved including raising over $6 million in a difficult market, the development and patent of the Sileach™ process.

"LIT has also progressed a number of projects around the world."

    Bonus Issue Prospectus

LIT will issue bonus shares to shareholders in a partly-paid share issue which rewards as well as open a future path of financing.

The issue price is $0.25 per New Partly Paid Share, with each New Partly Paid Share deemed to be paid up to $0.0001 and unpaid $0.2499.

    Australia’s Lithium Renaissance Starts Here

Australia is a country more synonymous with iron ore, copper and gold as opposed to metals such as lithium.

But all that could change as a group of Australian junior explorers pursue their goal of revolutionizing the entire lithium industry through cutting-edge technology, first developed by an Aussie team of metallurgists.

The company that is commercialising this technology and leading the charge is Lithium Australia (ASX:LIT).

Previously Cobre Montana, the company recently underwent a name change to Lithium Australia to better reflect its business of lithium processing and production.

LIT has just released results of a 10 day continuous processing trial, demonstrating it can produce lithium carbonate to 99.57% purity – just the thing lithium-ion battery producers need as they look to ramp up production over the coming years, on the back of a surge in electric cars and home battery power storage.

The 10 day trial was a world first – not only has LIT been first to achieve successful, continuous, lithium extraction using hydrometallurgy on hard rock, but the 10 day trial is the second time LIT has done it – no small feat.

The next step is a commercial evaluation of the lithium carbonate by potential buyers – meaning that very soon LIT will be making samples available to end-users/traders to ensure the product meets their requirements.

Critically, LIT’s process is cheap – it’s targeting production costs of well below $2,000 / tonne of lithium carbonate produced, which is competitive with brine producers.

Lithium carbonate sells for around $6,000/tonne, so there are strong margins if LIT can commercialise this technology.

LIT remains a speculative stock and caution should be advised when considering as an investment.

However, what LIT has up its sleeve could not only elevate them to the top of the lithium pool in Australia – but also globally

Lithium Australia NL to work with Pilbara Minerals Ltd to develop Sileach™
Tuesday, June 28, 2016 by Proactive Investors

Lithium Australia NL to work with Pilbara Minerals Ltd to develop Sileach™

Lithium Australia NL (ASX:LIT) will progress the development of its 100% owned Sileach™ processing technology through an agreement with Pilbara Minerals Ltd (ASX:PLS).

The Sileach™ extraction process is designed to recover lithium from silicates without the expensive roasting step.

Subject to the success of pilot testing of concentrates sourced from Pilbara’s Pilgangoora lithium project, the parties have agreed to establish the Sileach Joint Venture (SJV).

The SJV will aim to commercialise the Sileach™ process and investigate the viability of jointly developing a lithium conversion facility.

Adrian Griffin, managing director, commented: “The agreement with Pilbara Minerals is a very important step towards Lithium Australia’s goal of becoming a lowest cost quartile lithium carbonate producer.

"Successfully combining Pilbara’s Pilgangoora spodumene concentrates with the low-energy Sileach™ process has the potential to add enormous value to both parties and may allow the SJV to deal directly with the lithium chemical consumers, including the battery manufacturers.

            Transaction details

Testing will take place at the ANSTO Minerals facility in New South Wales after which the SJV partners may then elect to proceed with construction of a larger-scale pilot plant, for which Port Hedland is currently the preferred location.

Obligations of the parties as per the agreement are as follows:

Initial pilot tests at ANSTO Minerals
            - LIT will cover the capital cost of pilot testing;
            - PLS will supply the required spodumene concentrates for testing; and
            - Operating costs for the tests will be split 50/50.

            Large-scale pilot testing
            - Plant designed to produce commercial lithium carbonate and recover by-products;
            - LIT to cover capital cost of the plant;
            - PLS to provide the spodumene concentrates; and
            - Costs to be recovered as follows: Firstly recovering capital costs; Secondly recovering operating costs; and Thirdly, paying PLS cost price for the spodumene concentrate

            Definitive Feasibility Study
Data generated from operating the large-scale pilot plant will be used for feasibility investigations into the construction of a full-scale commercial Sileach™ processing plant.

            Commercial Sileach™ processing plant
In the event of a positive outcome of the definitive feasibility study, the SJV will advance to commercial production, including finance and construction, on a 50/50 basis.

            Analysis

The successful development of a commercial process to recover lithium from spodumene would place Lithium Australia at the leading edge of the lithium industry.

This agreement with Pilbara provides an opportunity for the development of this process.

Hard rock lithium mining costs are high at around $4,000 per lithium carbonate equivalent tonne.

Lithium Australia wants to remove the energy cost from hard rock operations using its technology to take the mining cost to below $2,000 per lithium equivalent tonne.

This joint venture aims to be in the lowest cost quartile for lithium carbonate production.

Lithium Australia's share price is up 190% over the past 12 months currently trading at $0.245 per share.

The company is positioned well within a strong lithium market, developing both, processing technology that is potentially applicable on a global scale, and growing a portfolio of lithium projects.

Lithium Australia now has a variety of lithium related alliances and joint ventures, which means technical resources are pooled and exploration costs are shared.

This portfolio of lithium projects in Western Australia, Northern Territory and Mexico helps produce steady news flow.

Lithium Australia NL receive positive test results for Sileach™ lithium processing
Thursday, June 30, 2016 by Proactive Investors

Lithium Australia NL receive positive test results for Sileach™ lithium processing

Lithium Australia NL (ASX:LIT) has confirmed extractions of greater than 90% lithium from lithium bearing silicates during a test program with ANSTO Minerals.

The quality of the lithium carbonate product appears suitable for further refining to produce high purity battery-grade lithium carbonate.

The test program is optimising Lithium Australia's SileachTM process ahead of pilot testing.

The positive test results come after the company recently made an agreement with Pilbara Minerals Ltd (ASX:PLS) who will supply spodumene concentrate for a pilot testing phase.

Subject to the success of pilot testing of concentrates, the parties have agreed to establish the Sileach Joint Venture (SJV) with the aim of developing a commercial Sileach™ processing plant.

                Analysis

These positive test results bode well for the upcoming initial pilot test work with Pilbara Minerals which aims to commercialise the Sileach™ process.

Test work shows the extraction of greater than 90% lithium which can then be processed into a high quality lithium carbonate.

Lithium Australia's goal is to be a lowest quartile lithium carbonate producer.

By using the Sileach™ process to produce lithium carbonate from hard rock lithium ores, which conventionally require energy intensive processing, it aims to lower the cost of production.

Lithium Australia NL (ASX:LIT) has identified assays of up to 4.08% lithium in recent fieldwork conducted at the Ravensthorpe Lithium Project, located 500 kilometres south east of Perth in Western Australia.

Ravensthorpe is located only a few kilometres from the Mt Cattlin lithium mine operated by Galaxy Resources Ltd (ASX:GXY) and General Mining Corporation Ltd (ASX:GMM).

Soil sampling will continue at Ravensthorpe and drilling is planned pending the completion of environmental surveys and site-works.

                      Adrian Griffin, managing director, commented:

“Exploration success at Ravensthorpe adds significant potential to our Yilgarn portfolio that has been recently expanded through the consolidation of mineral rights at Lake Johnston, and the Widgiemooltha acquisition within the Goldfields Lithium Alliance with Cazaly Resources.

"The identification of abundant lithium pegmatites at Ravensthorpe is pleasing, and confirms the potential of the area, long since realized by Galaxy Resources, at nearby Mt Cattlin.”

                      Ravensthorpe fieldwork details

The Ravensthorpe project contains three prospects – Horseshoe, Deep Purple and Phillips South.

The Horseshoe Prospect hosts an Exploration Target of 900,000 tonnes of lithium mineralisation at a minimum grade of 1% lithium.

Rock chip assays from Phillips South and Horseshoe included:

                      - Phillips South: 2.51% lithium
                      - Phillips South: 2.35% lithium
                      - Horseshoe #1: 2.96% lithium
                      - Horseshoe #1: 2.30% lithium
                      - Horseshoe #1: 3.14% lithium
                      - Horseshoe #1: 2.71% lithium
                      - Horseshoe #1: 3.80% lithium
                      - Horseshoe #1: 4.08% lithium

                      Upcoming exploration

Soil sampling is planned for the Phillips South Prospect, north of the Deep Purple Prospect and in
an area 1 kilometre west of the Horseshoe Prospect.

Drilling is planned for both the Horseshoe and Deep Purple prospects but will not be commenced
until completion of environmental surveys and subsequent site-works.

Soil sampling and site-works requires dry conditions.

                      Analysis

This fieldwork being undertaken at Ravensthorpe shows further evidence of pegmatites in the area similar to the nearby Mt Cattlin operating lithium mine.

The mineralisation within the Ravensthorpe project is hosted by the Cocanarup lithium pegmatite
swarm, located only a few kilometres to the south-west of the Mt Cattlin.

The Cocanarup pegmatites are considered to be a structural equivalent of the pegmatites at Mt Cattlin.

These encouraging rock chip and soil sampling assays are leading indicators of the potential the Ravensthorpe project has to host an economic lithium deposit.

Drilling at these targets will be a key determinant for Lithium Australia and provides leverage to exploration upside.

Lithium Australia is positioned well within a strong lithium market, developing both, processing technology that is potentially applicable on a global scale, and growing a portfolio of lithium projects.

Lithium Australia is trading up 75% year to date, currently trading at $0.295.
US Gold Corp (TSX:UXG) announced additional drilling from two projects within the Magistral District, located in Sinaloa State, Mexico.   Highlights...

                                      Saludos.
